Matt’s turn to take a guys’ weekend fell on the weekend that we happened to get hit with several inches of snow. Lucky for him, he was in the mountains skiing in fresh powder. For Portland, snow is pretty unusual, at least the kind that sticks around for more than an afternoon. Though I had envisioned getting together with several of the moms and kids who were home that weekend while the guys were away, the snow kept us homebound. But not without plenty to do. We had a whole yard, a whole street full of snow. And we live a half-mile from a great hill – Fernhill Park.
I risked it and drove the van to Fernhill, since I didn’t think Leo (or Fiona) could make it the whole way, and I didn’t want to be responsible for three kids and three sleds in a foot of snow a half-mile from our house. I figured if we got stuck, we were so close to home that we could at least ditch the sleds in the car before coming back, and I could carry Leo. Luckily, though, we didn’t get stuck. And we had an awesome time! We could have stayed out for a long while.
My angels!
Sledding was a hit.
This park is so beautiful any time of year.
With all that activity, we cuddled up to some Star Wars that evening.
The next morning, we shook our bodies loose with some wii dance, and got back in the van to go sledding again.
We returned Leo’s wooly mammoth to his original habitat.
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes…
We love this winter wonderland!
